Fiat 500

Post by Scuderia_Alan »

It's been out and about for months now but they had a launch early this morning to mark it going on sale. They've been streaming most of the events live on their website. Completely over the top like it was an opening ceremony for the Olympics.

As for the car, retro models usually make me cringe a bit but this one is alright. I'd rank it close to the Mini as being halfway there to its ancestor. Comes in 3 good engines and a bunch of customisations and won't sell at such a premium as other retro models have. The rumour is that it will start at around $19k in Australia which is about the same as the Punto right now. I wonder if they'll make an Abarth 500 as good as the Punto one. :D

My fiancee has really been looking forward to this car. She really likes the original and is glad this one has stayed as close as it has in appearence. There's been an Abarth version caught out and about testing so that should be cool too.

the new one looks nothing like the old one, if anything it looks like a Ford Ka that was left in the rain and shrunk and warped.

for what it's worth here's some concept shots and story of the Abarth version from over a year ago:

Actually the new Ford Ka is going to share the same base according to reports.
