Gonna be away in Cairns that weekend so wont even be able to make it out to have a look. Ill post up when we are doing the suspension and brakes, once that's done, the plan is to do a driver training course in it and then hit the track days. Ill keep the thread updated, looking forward to getting out to the track

And then hit as many witches hats as you can find whilst drifting into t1 with one hand out the window. They love it when people do that.VTRacing wrote:Be nice to the instructors, and listen to them.JTM29 wrote:Going to QR on Sunday for the v8 experience my parents got me for Christmas

Re: JTM's Supra
Just got back from my v8 experience. Was awesome fun, first time out on a track in the drivers seat. The instructor was nice, although I couldn't hear him over the engine noise but he said I did really well. Passed pretty much all the other cars out their which was annoying because some people where going really slow.
We bought the dvd for incar footage, luckily, because dad was working our video camera and he got the lights mixed up. He thought green was recording and red was paused, so we have a whole lot of footage of the pit wall and the ground. Mum was on the slr camera and the pictures are a bit dodgy but they are ok.But it was a great day, makes me all the more keen to get the supra out on the track.

Re: JTM's Supra
Just get some good pads put in before the day, cheap as chips, then no brake fade.

Re: JTM's Supra
Yeah good racing pads (A good bendix pad) certainly make a difference, and they are the best thing to upgrade short of replacing the brake assembly. The pads will feel awful at cold temperatures but once they heat up (which should take about 3\4 of a lap if you do it right) then they are great. Also, check that you have good brake fluid, preferably dot 4 and above (most modern cars come with dot 4 as of ~'06) Anything less than that and you may find its vapour lock (boiling brake fluid\contaminants) and not 'brake fade' if you start to get a long pedal. Best thing to do while driving is to tap the brake before any big stops to make sure you have a pedal and if you feel it start to fade, just rest the car for a session and go back out in 30 mins.
There are heaps of things that cause you to get a 'long pedal'. So, if you do start to get one make sure you diagnose it properly or get someone who knows what they are doing. The most common case is shot\overheated pads though.

Re: JTM's Supra
brother in law has been building his car for a while now. Was originally a sil-80, then as he invested more time and money he took the engine and driveline from that and bought a 200sx body. Recently been tuned and dyno'd. 402rwhp and thats without any adjustable mapping. He has been running it at the drags for a while now but he is keen to get to the track and try some grip laps and start working on his handling package.
Which leads to my next question. JTM where are you purchasing your suspension and handling components from?

I buy EVERYTHING though Jesse Streeter, he is a expat aussie who moved to Japan, he can source just about everything and ships it over via ship.
Ends up being 30% cheaper then buying locally
http://www.jessestreeter.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
That being said, its worth knowing exactly what you want.. I can help if you have any specific questions as I did all the research for parts on my car

We got the tien suspension from Fulcrum Suspensions. Brakes and bars we got straight from Toyota through dads work.

Looking good the black and silver wheels look great . I saw the Gas 2jz on the dyno at Auto Salon punching out over 1400hp on the dyno , I was and still am amazed that they could do that It seemed very driveable at low revs and idled nice and smooth , it would have to be frightening when you put your foot down though .

Re: JTM's Supra
Finally got a weekend set to work on it, and all the parts are in. So Friday night we are going to strip out the suspension and brakes and everything we need to replace. Saturday we are going to start putting the new stuff in and hopefully have it all finished up and out for a spin Sunday afternoon. Will be taking in the SLR to get some good pics as we do the work and ill post up how we are going throughout the weekend.
Can't wait to get into it and do some work on it, its just been sitting there for over a month while we have been away or busy or waiting for parts to arrive, now its all coming together

If by frightening you mean totally unresponsive and dull until it hits 5000rpm and starts dividing the world by 0 when the boost comes on.mrleisure wrote: it would have to be frightening when you put your foot down though .
