Re: 50,000,000 metres!
Went out to Fox Creek last night to trial out the lights in a singletrack/forest situation. Also scouted out the course for the 24hour. We rode about 15k's in total, finished out 1st 10k's in about the 55 minute mark though, which is good cos the 24 hour runs a 10k lap and the avergae last year was 1 hour. So we were happy we were on pace.
But wow, that place is another world at night. Only being able to see about 5 metres in front of you when hurtling down a steep bit of singletrack at 45kph is something mental.
Also a tad haunting in there as your riding along and you hear all these sticks breaking and leaves russling only a few metres away from you yet you see nothing, then you just sneak a glimpse of a Roo and the Heart Rate settles a little... I reckon we saw about 100 odd Roo last night without exageration. The place is full of them.

Re: 50,000,000 metres!
yeah we're pretty warey of them. Fortunately the nature of XC riding is that the majority of time you are only doing 10 to 20kph anyway, so a bit safer than hurtling down the freeway..lol. Would still mess you up though.
I hit, or more so grazed, an Emu out there on my downhill bike last year, not front on, it started running as we got near and I sort of bumped shoulders with it. But they are still fricken solid things and it almost sent me off my bike. I was only doing about 25 then too.

Thanks Norbs!
about a 2500km buffer.. hmm.. i'd have my doubts whether that's enough. Time to get the whip out on those that are behind their target!

Re: 50,000,000 metres!
I just updated my journal so that should be another 50 odd, I am unsure i will hit the target set for me but I will plod along.
It was 10ºc when I did my ride yesterday.. so I will say winter has already set in.

Everyone likes pie.
I haven't managed to build the buffer I wanted, but if I can keep up with the longer ones on the weekend it'll hopefully be recoverable when it warms up again.

Re: 50,000,000 metres!
Crowella, I was just re-reading this topic and making my own exl spread sheet and I noticed that.
As i was going to make one of our total targets being it adds to 54,000. So we have 4,000kms spare.

And using Google maps .. my route is actually 11kms and not 10 that I thought it was... as I forgot the Home to loop start and back.

That's awesome, thanks for the pie Norbs
Woohoo, just managed to scrape in over 1000km by the end of March! Considering we only ride a mere 14.2kms each time - that's quite a few rides!
Not looking forward to winter, but at the rate we're going over here in WA - it's probably not going to rain or get cold anyway, another week of low to mid 30 temps coming up...
