Motoring dilemma..

Post by Coopz »

Been having discussions with my new wife about our cars. She wanted a automatic so we bought a VW Polo. Now her old car is a 2010 Lancer SX, she wants me to drive the Lancer and sell my old car so we can put some money towards a holiday. My car is a 98 tf Magna Solara, it's in excellent condition, on LPG, has a tow bar and it's only done 110,000k, but it's worth maybe 4k at best.. Her argument is its 14 years old, unsafe (no airbags or other pussy features) and the servicing is getting pricey. My argument the Lancer will pay for the holiday if we sold it, and the Magna is a better work horse. (I also prefer driving the Magna).

Just unsure whats the best approach. The Lancer is a good car but so is the old Magna and it's auto.

Better reply

You are not long married and have just bought a new car. You cant afford to holiday unless you sell the Lancer so reality is that you cant afford to holiday. Sell the Magna and take her away for the weekend

Sell the Magna. Let's be honest, she's chucking you a life line to get rid of a 14 year old vehicle to take over a much safer and cheaper vehicle to maintain, without you having to use any thought energy and you're considering keeping the Magna? Crazy mofo.

Almost a year on from a crash that probably should have killed me. Priorities shift somewhat after that, I vote for safety. Sell the Magna.

I think my Magna will be going:(
This is going to be a difficult separation:(
Local mechanic wants to buy it as a loan car, but I don't want her getting thrashed to death.. The 9 years I've had her she has never ever had a problem.

I'm with you Coopz.... I'd keep the Magma. But, if you ever want some peace and quiet from the "I told you so's" and the constant nagging and the all and sundry that will follow, plus if you want some nookie... I'd sell it. Infact, sell both the Lancer and Magna and buy a newer Magna ;)

OTOH... The local mechanic wants the Magna, so.. it must be in good condition/running order if he wants it as a loan car? Right?
:tilt:

Sell the shitbox Lancer and go on a nice holiday.

Just drive them and you'll be pleasantly suprised. ;) You can't even mention them on the same page.
