So after MNF, I was told to get my cockpit in order. So an ikea bed was sacrificed to make this little beast

Re: DIY Plans for a Race Simulator Cockpit?
It's a pretty old case so makes some of the cable management look pretty crap no matter how much you try to keep it tidy. ![Frown :(](./images/smilies/frown.gif)
But yes that pic was with some quick & dirty connections to get started on the OS install asap.![Tongue :p](./images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Decided to go W10 after talking to the FNF boys, best thing was I didn't even need to update W7 just asked me straight-up if I wanted to upgrade.![Thumbs Up ](./images/smilies/thumbsup3d.gif)

Re: DIY Plans for a Race Simulator Cockpit?
1st test run last night with $Racing, OMG!!!
Everything on max except for crowds & 2 pass shadows in testing (single car) with Radical at Spa & it was between 350-400fps. :O
Then today in 28'C ambient with kids playing the CPU temp was only 10'C higher (38'C) with GFX sitting at 58'C.
So I'm a very happy chappy, yes I know I should've done it 12 months ago.
But as they say, good things come to those who wait. Plus I had to sweat the old asset, probably helps that I also bought the family a new lounge suite last week... Got a bargain too but it was still $4K. :O

Now you just have to start playing modern games to justify it. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/smile.gif)

Re: DIY Plans for a Race Simulator Cockpit?
So now the PC upgrade is done, I bit the bullet & bought my first piece of serious hardcore sim-racing hardware, a HE Sim Shifter Sequential.
While norbs looks for a cheap plastic alternative I went for the deluxe, most expensive but also most compact option given the cockpit doesn't have a lot of room left to mount another shifter.
It only took 5 days to get to me from the Netherlands but so it should've given the P&H costs. It came with the most solid steel desk clamp I've ever seen, it is 6mm thick steel. But I couldn't use as it made the shifter too close to the monitor, so I spent yesterday fabricating my own custom steel mount as you can see in the pics below.
What's it like, well I thought going from a G25 to a TH8RS shifter was a big step this is possibly an even bigger step from the TH8RS.
The feel of it in the hand & of the shift mechanism is so raw & industrial, it takes a concentrated effort to shift it which it does with a definitive clunk but it's not loud. This thing is built tough & I expect it will last me a lifetime of sim-racing & probably will for my boy too once I part with it. Yep this thing is not cheap for what is essentially a 2 button controller but I'm happy I spent the $'s.

Re: DIY Plans for a Race Simulator Cockpit?
So my next upgrade to the PVC SimRig is complete. 2 Simexperience modified Mini-LFE Buttkickers & a 300W 2 channel (150W ea) Amp added.
1st impressions is WOW, very cool to have some additional tactile feedback going on. Now I want another set to put on the front of the rig.![Rolleyes ](./images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Here's a quick video of them while my boy is having a run in DiRT Rally.![Big Grin :D](./images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
