Re: New Star Wars film announced
So Solo is out tomorrow, is everyone planning to see it? I'm not planning to unless I hear from some credible sources that it's amazing and even then I'll be pretty dubious. I think I'll catch this one on Netflix.

Thinking of taking my boy this weekend, as it's his B'day on Fri.
Reviews are not great but I can see why given it's not part of the main thread movies.

Where did you hear that it wasn't great? I heard the opposite, which surprised me actually. I'm not entirely hopeful.Duke wrote:Thinking of taking my boy this weekend, as it's his B'day on Fri.

Although Rogue One is amazing.

Yeah I've heard generally positive reviews on it. No plans to see it but I'm having a couple of weeks off soon and it'll still be on so I might go.

Just saw it, really enjoyed it. It tied in to the main movies better than I expected. I definitely preferred it to The Last Jedi.

Christ that's not hard. The Last Jedi is a fucking abomination.
I'd rather binge the God damned prequals with my eyes pried open Clockwork Orange style than sit through that absolute piece of shit again.

For me the Last Jedi was better than the prequels. Just not as good as the Force Awakens or Rogue One.

Saw Solo today, really enjoyed it.
I agree with w00sdy, it tied in really well with the background stories from the original movies. But I did think the Kessel Run segment was very underwhelming compared to the hype it has gotten over the years.
It's worth seeing if you're a fan, just don't set your expectations too high...

Watch this after seeing Solo to understand how well they tied in the other movies.

Re: New Star Wars film announced
I saw Solo over the weekend. Does seem to be a film of two halves. You can almost tell when Ron Howard turned up and saved it.
I thought the woman who is apparently in GoT was poorly cast. She can't really act that well. The voice of that 4 armed monkey thing wasn't right either. Thandie Newton got a free round the world ticket to do a lot of the promo stuff and was dead after 5 minutes. It starts off with the slowest most unexciting 'car chase' I've ever seen and I'm not sure the introduction of Chewie was very well done (yeah make some gargling noises!) but then after most of the cast so far got wiped out after the overly long train scene it seemed to pick up quite a bit.
Visually the film lightened up a lot, as it went from dark grey and sandy tones with close ups of eyes, fingers pushing levers and stuff like that to a might brighter pallet with simpler shots that just told the story. I thought Lando was well cast and the whole gambling, kessel run stuff worked well although I would have liked to have seen it as more of a sprint race thing, there wasnt a lot of sense that it was especially difficult to do.The feminist droid was a bit annoying.
I didn't quite get how Darth Maul makes an appearance though cos he's cut in half when Obi Wan is in his 20s and the next time you see Han Solo, Obi is 60-odd but Solo is 40 max.
It sounds like I didn't enjoy it but it's Star Wars so I did! Just a few niggles really and it'll get watched a few more times. I think Rogue One was the better 'Story' film but this will hold up.
Never understood why you can't see the front prongs of the falcon out of the left side of the cockpit

Re: New Star Wars film announced
I watched Solo at the weekend too, and actually forgot about it which says a lot. It was alright.
The kessel run thing was a bit obvious (Red Letter Media called that before the first trailer came out). As far I understand it, a parsec is a measure of distance, not time, so that line in the original film was just gibberish. That's why this had to be about being a shortcut rather than a sprint.
I looked up Darth Maul and apparently he was a big part of the spin-off shows like the cartoons. And apparently he has robot legs, so that explains that. I still don't get the timeline of it either though.
Your last sentence just blew my mind.

Sith that are really angry(Maul pissed at Obi Wan) can use the dark side to keep them alive, but it drives them insane and corrupts them more. Maul reconstructed himself as a cyborg. Much like what Vader did.

Re: New Star Wars film announced
I watched it in the cinema and didn't feel like I'd wasted my money. I enjoyed it but it didn't feel all that inspired. Not sure why it bombed so hard, but I haven't watched episode 8 yet. The title is also terrible.
My main issue with it is that it didn't have anything new and it tried to explain things that don't need explaining. It's like they got all the back story hints from the original trilogy and just ticked them off the list. A completely new story with Solo as the focus could have been a lot more interesting. Trying to copy that marvel cinematic universe formula I guess.

Goose bumps. Looks like the remains of the Death Star laying on that planet, and that's definitely Palpatine laughing at the end. Can't wait.

Same. I am looking forward to this. I know this is the end of Skywalker but I hope in the future they take it to other parts of the time line. Like going back to cover events in the old republic or the destruction of the Jedi temple on Coruscant. They have a lot to work with if they choose too.

Re: New Star Wars film announced
I don't know how many times I've watched Star Wars. Probably 50 or more over 40 years.
I've just noticed something for the very first time and have no idea how I've missed it in 50 other viewings.
C3PO has one silver leg!!!
WTF!

You probably didn't recognise him because of his red arm.
Gotta admit, I never noticed his leg either.

His red arm threw me completely. I was near yelling at the movie screen asking "Who the fuck is this droid?!".
