Re: Man points
NICE!!! Well that would solve the issue im having with wandering Nerf Darts.
Ive made various shooting range objects for the kids which work well with resetting, weighted rotating targets but...
We decided to have a shootout last weekend, first dart I fire and it hits Nathan smack in the mouth... We have safety glasses but not full face helmets lol...

Some more dad points.
My son has taken to ant keeping. He has a queen which has a crew of workers and will soon need a new home.
Ants Australia sells these AAC nests for $45. He also has a video on Youtube on how to make your own, since the slab of AAC is $3.80 from Bunnings it sounded like a good excuse to fire up the Dremel again and make our own.
When his colony out grows this nest ill make him a much more intricate one with the outworld integrated into the single enclosure.
Bloody happy with how this turned out, at this size we could have made about 6 from the $3.80 AAC slab.

Re: Man points
Got this little Nerf blaster as a side arm as my kids love shooting dad when he is busy reloading... You can chuck two darts in this and fire back quicker than dealing with a magazine.
Since the blaster was $5 I got a 3D printed barrel for it and gave it a proper Zombie Apocalypse paint job.

Re: Man points
We've had a bit of stormy weather recently and strong winds took the felt off one of my sheds. I've just been up on the roof and nailed it back on and, since this task required precarious balancing, a hammer and a bag of nails, I think it warrants a man point or two.
I've never done it before and I think I should get bonus danger points because some of the wood panels underneath the felt are rotting and I was half expecting the whole roof to collapse under me.
I will revoke any man points this task is awarded if, during the next storm, the whole lot comes off again. Which I am fairly confident will happen.

Re: Man points
That's the first time I've heard of using felt to cover a roof but then I'm not the manliest man either, it doesn't sound like it would be very hard wearing but maybe that's less of an issue over there.
Just found this

Did you remember to cover the nails with tar??

Re: Man points
Its how they roof houses / hotels etc in USA / NZ / Canada.
Basically plywood all over for structural integrity, felt then ( which has a bitumen / Asphalt spray on one side) next then asphalt printed shingles over that with a 30% lap.
Because of all the holes in the roof plywood the felt seals the entire surface.
Also copes with freezing then thawing repeatedly. But only lasts about 10 - 15 years before updating / replacing.
If you did our metal deck or clay tile roofing it would leak like a sieve within a few years.

Re: Man points
It hadn't occurred to me felting a roof wasn't a global thing but I suppose it wouldn't be much good in persistent sunshine.
It's pretty common for sheds here, and about 10 - 15 years sounds about right before it becomes brittle and starts leaking, or gets torn off in strong wind.
Mine just has to last for a few months until I come up with a proper solution when the weather's better, and I might replace it with metal so I don't have to think about it again.
I did not tar the nails.

I didn't make that step. It's been here since we got the house about 15 years ago. Mine would be much worse.

Re: Man points
I chopped down a tree with an axe at the weekend. I've never really wielded an axe before so I think that earns some man points.
But, since I didn't really know what I was doing, my elbow really hurts now.

Re: Man points
My latest project over the last few months.
When we bought our home the previous owner had split the double garage and we knew one day this would be an ideal room to split again and give the twins a separate bedroom. Only problem was I was using this room to house my sim racing rig!!!
After getting the power re routed I did all all the frame work, new door way, plaster and paint.
As the new space is a garage the slab has a 30mm step down so needed a solution for the new door way and while I was at it I removed the 4 old school capping tiles to the old garage doorway and gave that the same treatment so both doorways looked the same. Having never cut tiles before this turned out perfectly.
Once the rooms were done I needed a new computer desk so I built this top from scratch from Merbau boards and made it to size factoring in that the PC will also be connected to my sim rig to its left. All the cable management is done nice n neat so you dont see anything running from the PC in the far right to the rig in the far left.
Final product!
More than happy with how this has turned out. My son has his own room and I now have a dedicated gaming space with a desk to do my design work and play first person shooters whilst also retaining a space for the rig with it all running off one PC.

Well spotted. I also have one on my desk at work and the only poster in this room is also a piece of artwork of the 787B's triumph at Le Mans.
You can see this poster in the framing images above.

Farking wet weather in Sydney. Grabbed my electric screwdriver case from the shed, carrying it across the lawn to find I'm covered with ants - the little bastards had built a nest in there over the past few weeks. Now I'm wondering what else they've taken over.

Re: Man points
If you find them inside, or in anything you don't want them in but its hard to get to them. They hate airflow!
Hook up a fan and in a day or two then should have moved themselves out.
