Stewards verdict is through on Renault’s protest against Racing Point. Racing Point fined €200,000 per car and 7.5 points per car is withdrawn from their Constructors Champ total. Appeals/further protests very possible

I wonder if they'll now start protesting other parts of the car. The brakes might have been a test protest to see how it goes.

Wonder on what basis these penalties are founded as RP already had FIA approval on the cars.
I expect this will end up in The Sport of Arbitration till at least the end of the season.

Does this mean they've basically decided outright copying other cars to this extreme is now illegal, despite allowing it before the season started? Maybe they simply didn't expect it to be quite as effective as it has been.

Ferrari has become the first team to confirm that it intends to appeal the FIA’s ruling against Racing Point over its brake ducts design.

This is going to be a total cluster fark, F1 screws themselves again by alienating fans due to stupid decisions & off-track legal BS.
Who here hasn't enjoyed the fact that we have another team at the front racing hard???
I couldn't care less if they were all the same cars as long as the racing is close.

They are appealing the decision to allow RP to continue to run the car with the brake ducts they just got fined & docked points on, like I said a total cluster fark now!!!norbs wrote:pixelboy wrote:Ferrari has become the first team to confirm that it intends to appeal the FIA’s ruling against Racing Point over its brake ducts design.
Wait, what?
Ferrari has become the first team to confirm it is appealing the decision against the legality of the RP20, under which Racing Point is able to continue using its illegally-designed brake ducts.
Renault protested the front and rear brake ducts on the RP20 at the second race of the season in Austria, claiming they were not in compliance with the sporting regulations that say certain parts — known as listed parts — must be designed by each constructor. That protest was also lodged at the following races at the Hungaroring and Silverstone where Racing Point also used the same brake ducts.
After analysis of the designs and a hearing, the FIA stewards upheld the Renault protest, stating Racing Point had used Mercedes CAD designs — legally obtained in prior to 2020 — in the design of the rear brake ducts, that were near identical to the brake ducts on last year’s Mercedes W10 as a result. The breach came about because brake ducts became listed parts this season, but Racing Point still used another team’s designs.

Re: 2020 Emirates Formula 1 70th Anniversary Grand Prix
It's something to do with the design of certain parts being able to be 'given' to other teams last year. But the list of those parts has changed (I think the brake ducts are no longer on it) for this season and RP are using one they were given last year and I don't think they can do that.durbster wrote:Does this mean they've basically decided outright copying other cars to this extreme is now illegal, despite allowing it before the season started? Several teams are appealing because RP can carry on for the rest of the season with that part having only lost a small amount of money and a handful of points. The other teams are probably thinking they could do the same and take the points hit for the advantage a part would give them because the titles are gone anyway.

Are we really expected to believe that they spent all that time and money to completely redesign their car for one year before the regulations were due to change? It's pretty clear they took a massive short cut and just built the new car using Mercs designs.

That seems like common sense to me.w00dsy wrote:Are we really expected to believe that they spent all that time and money to completely redesign their car for one year before the regulations were due to change? I feel a bit sorry for Bottas. When Hamilton is leading they just give him the same pit strategy 1 lap later. When Bottas is leading they try and roll the dice for Hamilton and leave him out to stretch it and try and get a better result and very often it pays off.

What's going on with Albon?
His recovery drives are great to watch but how come he's always having to do that. I know his qualifying has been average but I kind of forget about him until halfway through the race, and he seems to be coming back from much further back than where he qualified. Has he been making an arse of qualifying and the starts?

From looking at his race chart, if he'd qualified on the front two rows it could have been very interesting.
