Nice. I am seriously considering some Speedplays. I can get a second hand set (done 300kms) with the cleats for $100!
not too shabby! :) i had toyed with the idea of going for speedplays.. in the end i figured that i'd been happily using Look pedals since the early 1990s, so why change it, and Miss V has Look Keo compatible pedals on her bike. I grabbed these from PBK for $160 a pair. Each pair of pedals included 2 sets of cleats, plus cleat covers .. not too bad! :D

Speed plays have a pretty good rep with regard to being kind on the knees.. and Steve Hogg seems to favour them, so that has to count for something

I like the fact that they are double sided. Makes clipping in a piece of piss. :)

The ONLY issue I have is that I have just bought 3 new pairs of cleats (on special) and some pedal body covers as well. Trying to spend less on the bike this year if I can (he says after just spending 400+ on a power meter). :D

power meter?? explain!!! :P

spending less on the bike sounds like a lot less fun than my current theory of spending all my spare money on the bike.. go for the latter! :P

Got the iBike iSport power meter. Pretty damn cool once you get it going. Getting it and sorting it out is a fucking nightmare. :)

Looking forward to that write up :)

There's was a second hand Quarq power meter for sale that i was tempted to grab... though figuring that maybe my skill level doesn't warrant that expense, as cool as the extra data might be ;)

I can get a power reading off the Bushido trainer if i want to test myself, but i guess that's not quite the same as real time power read outs

Well, it was a cost of $450 when the dollar was at 106c US.

I have only had it out twice. First ride I had the power on the LCD and I smashed myself trying to pump out more watts. Upside was I beat about 3 PBs on Strava segments. :)

I am still reading about how to train properly with it. It isn't an easy thing to digest.

The other thing I have found from the dawdle home the other day is that the Strava estimates are pretty damned close. I will have to put more time into this, but from what I have seen so far, they are just a tad under what the power meter is telling me.

Got these on their way over.

Plus cafe covers to protect the cleats when walking around and pedal covers so I can ride the bike in civvy clothing.

Cant wait.

i'm sure some cyclist has made one, they seem to like to monitor every aspect of their body, bike, conditions so they can sit down and chew the data later on. No one just goes out for a ride any more, even me. Once upon a time i'd just put shorts and runners on and go for a ride, i didn't care how far or how fast. Now i feel naked if i don't have my 15 essential items strapped to me and my bike. The check list is getting longer and longer. And now that Norbs has a power meter i'm feeling like i need one too, and i have no idea why but i'm sure it'd help somehow.

It helps with Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

I used to think how did people ride with lycra and clipless shoes? Why did they bother with trip computers and why clear glasses on cloudy days? Glad I wear that stuff now and have a trip computer to push me further.

Oh, I got brake pads too. Got 3,000km out of the first sets which I guess is okay considering that I'm usually riding in built up areas and stopping frequently when commuting

I still do rides where I hardly even check the numbers. You can usually tell. If my HR is below 140 for the ride, I was just having some fun. My Xmas day ride at 5:30 was tops. I had all the gear on me, but hardly looked at it. I spent more time off the bike taking photos. or the ride to work this morning. I didn't push hard at all, until I got in to town them hammered it up a hill to see if I could crack 1000 watts.

Image :D

Then there are the rides where I do push and love pouring over the numbers later. It helps that I am still improving. :)

It's addictive.

I've just been blessed with a newborn child and I've obviously spent a lot of time with him and mum in the past few days. However, I feel guilty that I havent ridden since Saturday and numbers aren't adding up like they should be! My next scheduled ride is with Hz on Saturday morning, that's a week between rides. That's just not on according to my data processing software and equipment!

pfft, Don't worry about that, my whole year has been screwed over. 1st I did my back just days before buller, I managed to recover somewhat but it ached for weeks after, Also, 2 days after I returned I copped an ear infection, which resulted in an epic wax build up, which I could not have syringed (sp?) because I have a permanent hole in my eardrum. So I had to wait 3 weeks for a specialist to come and vaccum it out, only to result in a new ear infection.

I could still ride a little but it was fucked. Between the pain of every bump in my ear and the fact my balance was rooted it just was not enjoyable. I am about 300k behind where I wanted to be, all the gym work I did in December has now been reversed. I need to fire up again. It has almost led to a state of depression for me..lol
