And as they haven't got the black boxes yet it's not completely clear if it was switched off deliberately or it was some other issue like a fire or catastrophic comms fault.

Only in as much as that it's part of the onboard network. The only way to shut it down should be to shut down the entire system. That's how I see it anyway.smithcorp wrote:That's a tough one - as I understand it, the principle is that anything electrical or powered, which could be the source of smoke or fire, or could potentially interfere with any other equipment, should be able to be shut down by the crew.J.D. wrote:The lesson of all of this is that things like ACARS should not be able to be switched off and should be broadcasting more than every 30 minutes.

They'd of found it by now if people could use their phone on planes. The 'find my phone' apps would have done it within 24hrs. I'm not sure they work too good when they're at the bottom of an ocean though.

Re: MH370
The phone thing was debunked a while ago. I saw someone saying you basically can't get any signal at 35,000ft and 300mph.
Most of the answers to the questions on that page are 'we don't know yet' because they haven't found the debris or black boxes yet. Until that happens most stuff can't be answered and it just has to be presumed to be somewhere in that area based on best evidence so far.

Re: MH370
Yeah be interesting to see what this turns up.
On the one hand it seems a bit amazing that one day after starting the search, they found it, but on the other hand it will be great news if they have. They seem to have tracking it for a long period of time to rule out being anything but a black box ping. Hopefully they can now actually locate it.

What's also interesting is that it's the right location in the right time that the flow predictions suggested that debris would reach land.

I don't think plane windows have been that small since the 1920s

Re: MH370
Part of the aircraft wing found on Reunion Island is from the missing MH370 plane, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has confirmed.
At least now they know they're looking in roughly the right place, due to the debris flow predictions. All the conspiracy theories like the guy well to the north who said he saw it from an oil rig and the people who think it's landed in Kazakhstan etc are all rubbish.
Hopefully now they can do some more debris flow calculations and see if they can narrow down where it might be and find those black boxes to determine what actually happened.

Re: MH370
I don't have much faith in the Malaysian Prime minister. Why should I believe him over an oil rig worker? What have either party have to gain or lose with their claims? Can anyone else confirm it?
I'll stick with my conspiracy theories for now.

Surely the flaperon was planted on the beach for people to find. You're just blindly accepting what you're told (that it's actually from MH370). #takesofffoilhat.

I can't beat that!
That one about Kazakhstan was always going to be bollocks. With all the will in the world, you can't just land a B777 anywhere. It would need a pretty large support system behind it and those things are way too easy to find.Big Kev wrote:All the conspiracy theories like the guy well to the north who said he saw it from an oil rig and the people who think it's landed in Kazakhstan etc are all rubbish.
