I wonder how many people voted for change rather than any real interest in what goes on in the country? Not that either side has any measurable impact on our day to day lives .

Wow that comes across as quite cynical :)

I think the way it happened shows that many people did put thought into it rather than just flipping to the other side (which is the easy option). The fact that most the votes lost went to the independents shows that it was specifically issues like climate and integrity that people were responding to, not just kicking one side out to let the other side in (because in many ways, both sides are exactly the same). Both major parties were down on vote percentage compared to last time.

What I love most about what happened last night is that it's a step away from the tricks and games that has taken over politics (like the announcement of the boat from Sri Lanka on the day of the election), we, as a nation have said we're too smart to fall for that and what we're after is people representing us who will honestly stand for what they say.

I don't know about no measurable impact. I can't afford to buy a home due to prices, my shitty wage and the insane rent I need to pay to support my family. We live within our means as much as we can also.
Lack of wage growth vs inflation has fucked middle income and below.

Fuck off scumo and hopefully Albo doesn't make me look too much like a Labor shill.

Woodsy asked yesterday on Discord how it will affect him. Its a good question.

I dont think much will change short term.

Given time, you'd like to see the billions that go to high profit joints like mining, via diesel rebates etc, go instead to punters in the form of reduced prices for renewables.

Hopefully the trend of PMs snuggling up to pedophiles is over. Howard/Abbott up Pell's arse and Morrison showing love to Houston and his filthy father.

Im not pinning too many hopes on them, they are after all, politicians. Im hoping the independents are needed to pass legislature, or it could be much of the same.

Im glad that shitbag Keneally is gone. He echoing the LNP boat peoples stance shit me to tears.

I've never been more glad to be wrong about zn election result. Hopefully the strong Green result will keep Labor honest on climate. I ant to know more about the position of the the teal independents on non-climate things, because they are mostly conservatives.

The Nats are going to dig a grave for the Liberal party. Will be funny to see.

I dont think the nats lost a seat did they?

If Dutton gets in as leader, it could be great if he pulls them further right. We dont have that many fascists in this country (but we have a bunch of racists though). It could fuck the LNP for years.

Also, Tudge survived! FMD.

Can you imagine people like Abbott's reaction to this?

Last Thursday the boss gave me a lift from the water pump to the fumigation shed and I got talking to him about the amount of cardboard in the back of his ute. Turns out he runs the polling station where he moved to last year. So I ended up as a list checker and vote counter for the seat of Wannon.

Heavy Liberal presence and we counted all the preferences for Lib/Lab with the local Independent and former radio host Dyson taking the 3rd most votes of the town.

Interesting to see how it all works behind the scenes, Talked voting with an older bloke who was there making sure I was counting the votes right. Lot of people in regional areas follow the how to vote cards and leave it at based off what he was saying, matched up with what I saw, but then Dyson got a strong presence in Warnambool and Horsham so now all those votes are getting recounted for Lib/Ind. Dyson won't win, but it will hopefully scare the Liberals around there.

Also I stole a ruler.

They moved my electorate boundaries from Parramatta to Bennelong just in time to be part of Howard's removal. I'd have to say the result this weekend here has given me some small satisfaction.

It was widely noted that they didn’t get women, though, as Samantha Maiden noted, it was women who finally got them. At root, the problem was that they didn’t get people: not the old, who were left to die unnecessary, wretched deaths while they went to the cricket. Not anyone under 40 who would never own a home, nor the trans kids they damaged or the poor they may have driven to suicide with the illegal and evil “robodebt”, wasting nearly $2 billion of our money in the service of persecution.

They didn’t get kindness or decency, that the suffering in the theatres of cruelty they called border defence not only distressed but shamed many Australians. They didn’t get that their ceaseless rorting and corruption offended people who built lives around trust and honesty.
Pretty fair assessment.

The count for Brisbane is interesting...

https://www.abc.net.au/news/elections/f ... guide/bris

Labor and Greens are fighting for second place (on first prefs) with the winner almost guaranteed to overtake the Liberal on preferences.

Great example of our fine system in action.
