I'm switching from ADSL2+ Internode (telstra resale) to the Bigpond Ultimate 3.0 cable.

Get 13mbps v 1mbps ^ and have done since I got it (adsl2+). For another 11$ smackers a month I'll go from 60 to 200gb and hopefully see a speed increase (of a decent amount). :aussie:

I will miss internode's phone centres though. Talking to a real aussie and getting through with no waiting time is a huge selling point.

I get told an installer is coming between 9-12. I take the day off work. Bloke apparently showed up, my best guess is it was while I had a shower. So now they want me to reschedule to the 10th. Being a casual I have just wasted a days pay for absolutely nothing because someone came and knocked on the door veryvery quietly while I had a shower at 9:10.

So I called them and told them to jam it, I'll stay with internode. Very disappointed in telstra. I found out all this ofcourse when I call up at 12:15 wondering why noone has showed up.

Not surprising tbh.
Telstra has one of the shittiest customer service of all telcos & ISPs

Why can't they give you a call saying "we're here, where are you?". Too simple, eh?

As above. They do have your number..or fool for you taking a shower before they have been.

Yep, we have front doors for downstairs and upstairs he probably did a bit of a knock downstairs then F'd off. Didn't even bother ticking the boxes and filling out the "Sorry we missed you" card. One phone call and they would have had my service for 2 years. Now they can jam it.

Internode customer service is too good to give up for that crap.

Signing up to the 200GB/100mbps cable at the moment. Works out really good value as I get a $20/month discount being a JB staff member. Wonder if in reality it will be much quicker than my 20mbps Optus cable.
Either way it's heaps cheaper and also more downloads than my 50GB peak and 80GB off peak.

Fark the speed! If I could "survive" on 200GB and didn't need to worry about my uploads I'd jump over straight away.

200GB is fine for me. I only just manage with 50GB, but 200 is plenty. There's an option for 500GB if you really want that much.

My internet usage must be different to others.

Based on 311 days of torrenting
- Average is 14.46 GB/day
- I know I haven't really smashed it 24/7 as...
- One month I downloaded 800GB (long time ago, not sure if apart of this 311 day stats)
- So I'd "just" come under the 500GB mark on average

Then the other uses for internet;
- The http downloads
- Streaming vids (non porn/porn of course)
- General browsing / software updates / small downloads (apps n crap)
- Is there anything else normal? Can't think

For $59/month (internet and phone line cost included), its pretty fooking awesome having truly unlimited internet. Yet I know I can't have my cake and eat it too, I'll never get the sheer download speeds you blokes get.

I dont understand where one stores all this data. Would cost more than the internet itself.

Yeah your right, about $4.5K in networked storage, prices based on what I paid at the time. Surely it would be fairly cheaper these days. Actually from last count it was gonna cost between $2.2K - $2.4K to get some serious storage... I bought a house so thats still on hold for the moment.

The normal stuff watch it, store it, share it, delete it if its really shithouse.

Eh a few days ago I downloaded 34GB for a mate.

Him: Hey would you mind seeing if you can get "this show?"
Me: Sure, standard or Hi-Def?
Him: Aww whatevers available
Me: Yep added the seasons from my phone, bring your drive in tomorrow

Few days later
Him: Thanks man, it looks sweet on my new tv
Me: No worries

*** Its unlimited internet, who cares, loose something some how? Again who cares, just download it again... as if it matters ***

So what is your bandwidth with this unlimited internet? Surely 1.5mbps would be painful with that much DL

10.5 mbps (aka 1.3MB/s). If I'm home I limit it to 400k/s, after 11pm till 5:30pm the next day its automatically switched to maxed out. It seems to work quite well.

Come on surely theres another "internet weirdo" around ARSE that makes my efforts look like a nanna.

So you have offpeak/peak or is that just so that downloads don't effect normal internet usage?

EDIT: More on topic, was in the city today and did a speedtest with my new "4G" phone, came up with 27mbps Down / 8mbps Up which I was fairly impressed with.

Narr narr none of that shit. Its truly, truly unlimited... do what you want, whenever... no off-peak, uploads don't count... flatout pure unlimited internet. They don't even let you see an official monthly usage (I'm guessing cause some people would try and beat their previous monthly records).

Oh yeah, I love this part. It always gets such a shocked look from people followed by narr... they're shit.

Yep, its TPG.

Regarding paying for internet. I've lived on the Gold Coast in a few houses, then moved to Brisbane, again in a few houses (totally different suburbs throughout by the way)... yep I've always had TPG.

Well sure but if I was be very critical over all the many, many years I've been with them I've only called them say 8 times (~less than once a year). The amount of calls might have reached double digits maybe. In the mind frame their "uptime" would easily make it to the 99.99% area.

Which is funny cause that beats the enterprise I work for and that place has hundreds of support people dedicated 24/7 to fixing issues.

I too have heard so many issues with TPG (heh seen Whirlpool ever?), so many I feel I might just be the magical lucky customer but we all know thats complete bullshit. Now you all know how much I rely on the internet and how much I "use" it, if TPG was horrible and unreliable... umm... I would have moved (fucked off), nearly a decade ago.

Having normal, usable internet to me is like having a computer, a phone line, Free-to-Air tv... hell a pen... its the bloody basics. Petey I think you mentioned "missing the Node call centres" I've never understood that, as the questions I ask myself are; You call them? Why? It breaks all the time?

I pay a monthly fee, they don't call me and I sure as hell don't call my ISP. For the extremely rare time I do feel the need, its "9/10" been their end and you just wait for Telstra/Telstra contractor to fix the problem... or that one time my modem died :D

I'm not sure I could think of enough things to download that I wanted to reach the kind of numbers you do. I pretty much download as much as I want as it is.
