http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/resul ... /2006.WAKE <- Lap times from SE1Z's track day.
Unfortunately, I don't have a vehicle worthy of taking to a track day, however, I have a very good mate that does.
He is steadily modifying his CE Lancer, in the new year he's replaced the original 1.6 litre engine with a 1.8, has purchased a turbo and is acquiring the gear necessary to install and run it, as well as keeping an eye out for other go fast bits. After he puts the turbo in, he'll probably invest in some good brakes, at which point he'll probably need new tyres... Dealing with dodgy wrecking yards, mechanics and ebay users has made it a seemingly never ending saga, but a valuable experience nevertheless.
He's already taken it down the quarter mile a couple of times, and I think I've convinced him to take it for a run at a track day once he's got all the go fast bits on and operational.
Next step in the master plan is, of course, to get his permission for me to cut a few laps when we get there

This will be my signature until Dexter Bean qualifies for a NASCAR race. Keep chasing that dream...

i'd be in that bugle
we would need to attend a 'wakefield open day' - as apposed to what I just did - a 'club day'
Since we dont have enough members here to warrant hiring the track for a full day.
The open days are roughly $80 + a wakefield lisence ($40).
Trouble is... you/we wont know anyone else there, so we dont know how they are going to behave on track.... thats a scary thought...

Digging up an old thread here.... But I know a few of you were keen to hear about my track day adventures
I will be going to Oran Park March 24 to have a bit of fun at a skidpan day!
It is being setup as a bit of a competition:
--
1.) Clover Leaf
A timed activity that incorporates power slides around the plastic markers. The wet surface will really provide lots of challenges.
2.) Super Slalom
Again competitors run against the stop watch to see who will be Top Gun. Touch a soft plastic cone and a timed penalty will apply.
3.) Autocross
The ultimate driving test where too much power will see you sideways. Smooth is fast and the stop watch will determine who is the best driver.
4.) Drag & Drift
Gas it out of the start box flat out onto the skid pan. Two laps around the wet circle without spinning out. Back through the mini slalom and stop in the garage.
THE FASTEST 3 DRIVERS FROM EACH OF GROUP ENTER THE FINAL ROUND
5.) Khanacross
A combination driving activity where acceleration, braking and change of direction around he plastic markers will see all drivers living on the edge. Any mistakes incur a timed penalty.
--
It will be an awesome day!
If anyone is keen to come along, let me know soon as there are still 10 spots left. The day will cost $140.00
Will do a bit of a write up when I get back with a few pics and what-not.
There will also be a bit of a surprise for those interested, the reason behind me selling my current car

By the lack of response... I guess nobody cares...
But just in case you are shy....
Below is my new car.
Its an MY00 WRX Wagon
220kw at the wheels
Front mounted intercooler
2.5ltr STi engine
forged internals and a big turbo.
Huge brakes and a hell of a lot of suspension/handling mods - drives like its on rails!

Well.... I just got back from Oran Park... what a day!!!!
Today was the first time i've been able to have some fun in my new machine.
I learnt a few things....
* don't sleep in and expect to change all four wheels in 20mins... *especially* once you find out your trolley jack wont fit under as the car is too low.
* Once you realise the above, don't even bother with the standard scissor jack... waste of time!
* This car is an animal! I have a lot of learning to do. While my times weren't considered slow, im 100% certain a more skilled driver would shave seconds off my times.
* Understeer is a bitch.
* having mechanical sympathy slows you down.
My car is setup perfect for these style of events, slalom courses, quick changes of direction... etc... body roll is non existent, it really gripped the road like it was on rails!
I have a few pics

Congrats Scottie, you will have a ball mate!!
The only tip, driving wise, I can give you: prepare to be shocked... it is MUCH easier to lose control than you think it is
Apart from that, make sure your oil/water/brakes are all checked and double checked before you head out, you will have fun AND get to drive your car home then
Just found another pic of me, professional photographer this time....

Here is a vid of one of the skylines doing the 'clover leaf'
This is the only event I had trouble with, hence my bad time in relation to the other awd's - the last bit, exiting the clover leaf and back onto the mini slalom is where I lost my time, I put my foot down and the whole care jumped left by about 6foot, spinning all four wheels and I was way off course.... hehehe lesson learnt
