I think scotty will be lucky to escape with just the time penalty, that was stupid in my opinion. Driving people into the wall is just not on

What a scriptwriter!!
To get the 11th spot with a banged up car, then to be denied by the officials... can't stop shaking my head for poor ole Scotty Mac... so soooo close... great drama, was hoping he'd get it...

I say the final penalty is largely irrelevant, if the fence had not been there CL was going to get past and he would have lost anyway.
Locking the rears into T1 was the final nail in the coffin, from that point on he was desperate but it was a lost cause.

The mirror needs to be in place to do that!
I dont think he had time - he knew he had to throw the block so he did but it didn't come off.

The other thing I thought of today that has been missed - as soon as the PLP for speeding came through for Scotty, Ludo was one the phone saying "Did Gizzy hit you? Did Gizzy hit you?"
Regardless of whatever story Dr Ryan was spinning afterwards - to me that suggests that DJR knew straight away they had gone over and were hoping that a hit from Gizzy could be used as an excuse.

And what if Scott was under the speed limit and Giz had hit him and sent him over it?

Then I would hope you can claim extenuating circumstances and have the penalty removed.
I wonder if the DJR boys discussed and selected a brake marker for pit entry in their pre-race briefing and both just got it wrong, maybe the track was dirtier, less grip in general - who knows but something like that makes sense.

I'm not sure how they're going to sort it out. The system employed now should be fool proof.

100%. The penalty for speeding in the pitlane is massive to any race, being dropped back in the pack on a close street circuit is race ending. If its true they screwed this up then it 100% cost Scotty the championship, if he was sitting top 5, he would have easily have won the championship

Of course the problem could well be on the DJR end.
Either way, its sloppy that this is being played out publicly, should have been done behind closed dorrs.

Looks like both parties agree to disagree.
The full statement from DJR Team Penske

Officials from DJR Team Penske and members of the Virgin Australia Supercars technical staff met recently – at the request of the team – to review data related to the penalty issued to Scott McLaughlin at the Newcastle 500 for exceeding the pit lane speed limit.

DJR Team Penske tabled data that showed that the #17 car was not speeding in pit lane, as noted in a previous media release.

While both parties respect each other’s position, the timing loops remain the best measurement method currently available to the judicial system for the rules to be enforced and policed in a timely and fair manner.

As stated previously, DJR Team Penske accepted that the outcome of the Championship cannot be altered, but the team felt it has a responsibility to seek clarity and to ensure the methods used to enforce pit lane speed limits going forward are as accurate as possible for all competitors.

DJR won't admit they're wrong, but they're saying the officials are more right.

Love it, both the new livery & new Commodore works for me. I'm just not so sure once they start running the V6 turbo's in it.
