much better than the 2nd one, which was more like a slow motion ad for DC shoes. This one was a lot more like the original.

Very awesome and a thumbs up to him for putting some of the spark back into rallying that the Loebot has inadvertently sucked out of it.
So is this car basically a Focus WRC machine with the boost cranked to 11?

No, it actually has very little to do with the Focus WRC. For one thing, it's a Fiesta.Jiminee wrote:Very awesome and a thumbs up to him for putting some of the spark back into rallying that the Loebot has inadvertently sucked out of it.

Number two, it started life as a Swedish rallycross car (where they pump the boost up to 11 as a matter of course). Block essentially got it so he could run the Rally America events in a Ford.

Gotcha, makes sense. I thought the 600hp was interesting, WRC is closer to 300 right?

Re: Ken Block Gymkhana 3
Yeah, well it's all a function of the 34mm restrictor that WRC cars have to have. And anyone who thinks they only have 300 hp is kidding themselves. They're closer to 350 hp, with huge amounts of torque (550+ Nm) from 2000 to 5000 rpm.Jiminee wrote:Gotcha, makes sense. I thought the 600hp was interesting, WRC is closer to 300 right?
Take the restrictor out and let a WRCar rev (since hp is a function of torque and revs) and you'd see 600 bhp.

Sorry for the double post, but the car is essentially the same as this one that Marcus Gronholm drove at Pikes Peak last year:

I was only being silly with the 11 bar bit, having said that I am now curious when you say turn it up to 11 is that a predetermined setting or just simply 11psi?

Re: Ken Block Gymkhana 3
I wonder how many takes (and days) it took to get all the scenes perfect? They used 4 sets of tyres for the (much shorter) second video and this car seems even harder on the tyres! Still an awesome thing to watch, well and the sound too
I thought most WRC ran at least 2+ bar boost... probably closer to 2.5 bar (36 psi). I'm not the resident rally expert though so maybe someone else can clarify? My guess is he would be running closer to 3 bar to make 660 Hp.Sambo wrote:I was only being silly with the 11 bar bit, having said that I am now curious when you say turn it up to 11 is that a predetermined setting or just simply 11psi?

Re: Ken Block Gymkhana 3
Well, the information I've gleaned on WRCars indicates that they run around 3 bar. That's 43 psi. For comparison, for various reasons we can only run about 1.7 bar in my car.
It wouldn't surprise me if Block's thing was running more than 3 bar.

I was about to say 11 bar is a like 160 psi.. you wouldnt even find a turbo that could produce that

Re: Ken Block Gymkhana 3
Thanks boys , 3 bar is insane. I would hate to be a compression ring in a WRC car.
