Re: Bikey Booty!!!! What you got fool?
New shoes day again for me!
after my CX race on Sunday I was washing my shoes and managed to pull out the fastening wire from the dial. FFS.
With an interstate MTB race in 2 weeks and no guarantee that the spare parts to fix my shoes would arrive in time i had a poke about some of the shoes for sale online. Found some nice Lakes, normally ~$250 marked down to $90 and the only size left was mine. It was like it was meant to be, so i snapped them up

Oh sweet. I assume you went with Giant because they come in orange?
I bought a full set of pads. Only took the knee pads to Ourimbah, so of course I had a dumb stationary fall and hit an elbow Went with Poc pads as they were on sale but I find the elbow pads a bit chunky. Wore the full set at Glenrock on the weekend and it was too hot.
Do we have any more Sydney area arse mtb riders to hit a bike park some time?

Body positioning has been my big issue. My balance is always off making me feel like a complete noob 1/2 the time. Not looking far enough ahead and planning appropriately I think.norbs wrote:The thing I forgot about MTB is how much more you have to concentrate. Jesus christ.

This is what I love about riding technical single track. Line selection becomes key to maintaining momentum, especially in rock gardens.norbs wrote:The thing I forgot about MTB is how much more you have to concentrate. Jesus christ.
I found riding at night easier, because you concentrate on whats right in front and your peripheral vision is limited. If you dont, SPLAT.

Ide love to ride the high country, especially Flowtown. 10k of single track, yes please.
I can only hope they get the Mount Lofty trail built in Adelaide one day as there is talk of a 7k trail from the summit to the base.

That looks like a nice patch of forrest for a pedal Norbs.
How have you been liking the change of pace with the MTB?

Re: Bikey Booty!!!! What you got fool?
Well that is only my 2nd ride on the new bike. I used to do a lot on my old MTB. Steel with no suspension. This was the late 80s early 90s, so things have changed, a lot!KNAPPO wrote:That looks like a nice patch of forrest for a pedal Norbs.

We used to go out most weekends and do some big rides. 90km one ride that took over 6 hours. I would always come home broken. Had the bottom of my right ear glued back onto my head after one trip.
The biggest things I have noticed, in order.
29 inch wheels and suspension! Su-ucking-perb.
My vision is fucked. Shadows and bright light have me second guessing myself all the time.
Reflexes. Well i am 52, so to be expected.
Bravery. I have none!
Skillz. I have these in less supply than bravery. I was always pretty hopeless, but with the lack of confidence, it is a bastard. I am sure confidence will come, but a crash like Saturday will be in my mind for a while. I dont recover like I used to.

Re: Bikey Booty!!!! What you got fool?
Dont worry Hutchy, it has taken a good 3 years for the old bastards to wear me down.
I did it a lot when I was younger, but have never had a suspension bike. it is very very different.
I went out on Friday on my own to an easy track and had a great time. On Saturday I went with Bazz (67 years old in a couple of weeks) and he took me to a killer track. It has just rained, was slippery and steep and it scared 9 shades of shit out of me.
After going over the bars last weekend, I am super cautious now. That hurt fora good few days, and I still have a sore elbow and shoulder.
