Gents,

I have a birthday approaching, and my 16 year old A1 wheel needs a rest.

So, do I go the Logitech G27, Fanatec 911 GT2 or Fanatec 911 GT3

The GT3 Fanatec is $249 at the moment.

Will all these work with my A1 pedals?

I'd say go the Fanatec if you don't plan on changing pedals. You'll get a higher quality wheel that way I would think.

Having said that, I've got a g25 and have never tried any fanatec stuff, so I'm no expert.

Can confirm, I've also never tried Fanatec wheels and am not an expert.

Yes. G27 here no Fanatec.

However!

I have Fanatec pedals which replaced my A1's and they are brilliant. I have heard the Fanatec wheels can have the odd issue. The pedals are the same, but easy to replace the load cell etc.

If your pedals plug directly into usb then they'll be fine.

I've tried both wheels, though I only had the GT3 for a couple days. I prefer the FFB of the Fanatec wheel. It's smoother, quieter, and seemed more detailed.

I prefer the ergonomics of the G27. The rim on the GT3 is pretty thick which is ok, but the hub spokes are also really wide and not well placed for me. That would probably just be a matter of getting used to and depends how you hold the wheel I guess.

I don't like the buttons on the G27 wheel but the ones on the GT3 aren't a whole lot better. No tactile feel when trying to find the one you want, but that would also be something you'd get used to.

The G27 pedals are pretty good, but the shifter isn't. Haven't tried the CSR pedals so I don't know how they compare.

G27 may be more reliable, but I don't know what the v2 is like in that regard. Ysu hasn't had a fun time with his Fanatec wheel.

I'm sponsored by them so I might be biased, but if I only wanted a wheel I think I'd get the GT3.

The Fanatec CSR's murder the G27 pedals. And I only have the v1.0 pedals.

Oh and I forgot to say, I've only ever owned the A1 pedals without the wheel. They work independently, they work with any wheel as far as I know. You just have the pedals plugged into that A1 controller box.

Do you still have the terminator plug, norbs??

Norbs has A1 pedals so really only wants to upgrade to a new FFB wheel.

I thought a DFGT could be an option but he seemed to think it might be too console / toy'ish.
From memory it has similar internal to a G25/27.
I think a few here use one (Pix?) & might like to comment on what they're like...

The pedals are bundled in that special though. GT3 v2 + CSR pedals for the same price as the wheel.

Then again I always come last so maybe you should get the better one... It's either the wheel is crap or the bloke holding it..

DFGT is adequate, it does everything. I've had a DFP for a long while. The pedal is rubbish. (and Greger have used a DFP, too, for a loooong time, beating everyone...)
G25/27 - never tried, but the pedals are a bit of a letdown as I heard. Cog mechanism noisy and less accurate. However, you can find these really-really cheap, often at g27 sales (under $200, even as low as $160)
A1 pedal - great but the pedal throw is not enough. The dual spring is fantastic.
Fanatec Gt3; great wheel, smooth, quiet, & accurate (belt driven). And pretty strong. The leather is exquisite. Few problems: table clamp is rubbish (I had to drill a hole in my desk to screw it on when I use it!) & the free pedals aren't really great either. While the pedal throw is better than the A1's, and you can change the angle of the pedals and the layout somewhat, it was spiking a month after I started to use it. It can be helped with a bit of deadzone. Oh, and pray you don't need to experience the fanatec "support". If you care about that at all, get a Logitech, they'll replace a faulty wheel without further ado.

I got my G27 yesterday and I really like the wheel. It feels good and the pedals are much better than what I was using. The shifter feels cheap and nasty though so I won't bother using that.

Do you have another shifter?? Even though it's not the greatest, it's still far more fun driving with it than using flappy paddles. I also love the G27, It's actually a much better product than I was expecting.

It's a shame the G27 shifter doesn't have the sequential option like the G25. My main issue with it was that it kept getting stuck on the gate, but I never bothered opening it up to see if I could fix that.

I've started having trouble with my g27 shifter. If it's in 2nd sometimes the game will recognise that then go to 4th even though I haven't touched it lol. Most times its fine and if I am racing seriously I use paddles anyway. Shifter is just for fun. G27 is a fantastic set up for the price. I tried a gt3 wheel the other day but it wasn't calibrated properly and I was using a rift for the first time so probably didn't help. If they are easy to set up it feels amazing in the hand

Yeah I reckon it could be cut or grind down pretty easy. With a bit of practice though I find I don't miss gears as much anymore.

At some point I'll look at a better shifter, but it's doing an ok job for for now.

I only use my G25 shifter in sequential mode and as a pit lane speed limiter lever.
There is something i love about attacking the pit lane and pulling on a tactile leaver instead of pushing a button.

I had mine as a handbrake in Richard burns rally. Was so cool

Yep I use my G25 in Seq for a HB at times.

What are the clamps like on these?

I have a 50mm lip on the desk, so just wondering if that will be sufficient.

You mean the table top is 50mm thick? or you only have 50mm of clearance under the desk?
