If Bottas retires from the race, Hamilton wins the title
If Hamilton finishes ahead of Bottas, Hamilton wins the title
A win plus fastest lap for Bottas is the only result which ensures the championship battle continues regardless of where Hamilton finishes
In any scenario where the pair end the year tied on points Hamilton will win because Bottas cannot beat him on count-back by winning more races

There's probably a reason I can't remember any of the races from this track.

I like the track. Not a lot of memorable moments but they only raced there 7 times. Webber and Vettel crashing into each other on the back straight. Hamilton's mega recovery in GP2. That's about it.

Funny enough, I was cleaning my NAS out a few months ago and found a very old pixelated copy of the Lewis GP2 race.. was awesome

To be fair he won every wet race from 2014 to the German GP in 2019.

Well he looked rubbish last night. And in that time (2014-2019) he was driving the stand out car. Will have to do some reading.

How many wet races do we get per year I wonder?

edit. you know who looked even more rubbish? Ferrari!

That was an entertaining session. Fingers crossed we see a little rain during the race to keep it spicy.

Really strange to see some teams massively off the pace and others a lot higher up just from rain.

I was thinking that as well.

I wonder if driver or car makes a bigger difference in the wet.

Going off how close all the team mates were i'd say it's still the cars.

The Mercedes cars have been struggling the most (of the front runners) this weekend with the low grip on the track. 1st practice was on a dry track, but the cars looked like they were running on ice.

Amazingly Hamilton has only been on the podium for 2 of his 6 championship winning races.

Russell and Giovannazzi crashed on the way to the grid. I think this will be a SC start.

That start was hilarious - the slowest ever? They just didn't move :D

Even the Hamilton haters must acknowledge that was a sublime drive.

Perez's contract negotiations just got easier.

Yeah that was a master class in patience and tyre management from Lewis. He seems to be able to pull wins out when you think he isn't the quickest guy early on. He seems to be able to read a race and adapt to it better than anyone else too. Quite a few times we've seen him disagree with the teams tactics and he's usually right.

Was good to see Seb back on the pace too.

Yep, Lewis deserved that, he drove an excellent race (these Inters would make a lovely set of slicks!).

I agree that Hamilton let the race come to him, but am I the only one wondering how he got away with shoving past Ricciardo and causing that fracas, without a penalty?

They didn't actually hit. It was Riccardo that tried to avoid him and bumped Ocon.

“We made a great start today, but I was squashed in between Lewis (Hamilton) and Esteban into Turn 1, so I had nowhere to go and I clipped my team-mate which is the last thing you want to do,” Ricciardo explained.

Yeah, I know he didn't touch, but he made it tough for the people he was behind.
If that was Grojean, people would be screaming.

If you mean T1 I'd put that on Ocon. Dan and Lewis were side by side, Ocon got a run around the outside of them but cut in too far. Lewis went down the opposite side of the track so they might not have been aware of him.

Was a great race to watch. I was hoping someone would gamble on slicks with 5-10 laps to go. Could have thrown it all open again. Stroll must be gutted.

Been looking through the records today.

Raikkonen, Hamilton, Vettel and Ricciardo have done more GPs combined than there have been races! Jaysus

Stroll would have been gutted at the end of that, feel for him as he didnt really put a foot wrong.
Enjoyed that race, man that surface looked treacherous.

I remember seeing Schumacher taking his 7th and never thinking ide see it again. Nice touch from Vettel to be the first to congratulate Hamilton when he was still in his car.
Hamiltons tyres reminded me of that Malaysian GP where MCS ran a set of inters into slicks to take the win.

Cracking race.
Stroll was way ahead by half distance. That's quite a fall back to end up 8th and half a lap down but that's where the Merc strategist is earning their money. The number of times they turn a bad start in to a podium is amazing even with the best car. Bottas had a shocker! No amount of strategy was going to get him back in to it!

It's a shame there weren't 10 more laps for someone to go on to slicks just to see what a difference it would have made.

Well done to Hamilton though That's the sort of drive that wins you titles and he's deserved to win this year. It's just a shame most of those 7 titles have been hotlapped all the way with little to no opposition!
