S3 Scoop from "self appointed" beta tester

Post by Gizmo »

Hz you oughta see the S3 engine.. fuck me. you'll love it
Gizmo how have you seen it?
Hz lmao.. weird you aint seen me online racing for a few months aint it
Gizmo beta tester? How did you pick up that role?
Hz well, when you're doing skins for it, you kinda need to be able to test them in game
Gizmo send a pic send a pic send a pic
Hz dude, i'd get my ass kicked
Gizmo who is going to know
Hz i'm not even supposed to talk about it at all
Gizmo i'll show you my cock lmao
Hz fuck off fag
Gizmo lol
Hz lets just say we'll be seeing s3 a lot sooner than people expect
Gizmo this year?
Hz at a guess i'd say around september, but i mean shit happens, prolly get pushed back a bit hpefully before xmas though
Gizmo have they done proper cokpits? Changing light? Wather?
Hz u know how s2 looks a lot like S1well s3 dosn't look a great deal like s2 umm. in looks very umm, how can i put it by comparison.. umm probably a bit sinbin'ish
Gizmo that isn't a bad thing
Hz oh, and yes to light, yes to weather
Gizmo ooooo ok that is what i have been waiting for
Hz and apparently there will be ruts develop on dirttracks, aswell as mud, but it hasnt been released to testers yet neither has changing light and weather. bit i can test at night. bet yeah, the timeline doesnt change from night to day, and it should be doing that by the dinal version. well before s3 alpha
Gizmo well i'll be hanging out for it. will we need to upgrade pc's?
Hz umm, if you can run GTR2 or Rfactor fine you'll run this fine. dynamic skins are fucking awesome
Gizmo so they get dirty? paint comes off?
Hz yep, and tyre scuff marks, and scratches and mud and grime
Gizmo nice so they have moved over to dds files?
Hz yeah.. lmao.. dude, LFS use dds files for skins now lol
Gizmo shows you how up to date i am lol have physics changed?
Hz ha, but yeah, you probably dont realise cos u put jpegs in the game, and it converts itself to dds. yes, physics are still getting tinkered with, They have changed quite a bit already though, but it definately still feels like driving LFS. crash physics are insane by the way. and you can lose bumpers and wings and stuff
Gizmo damage, that's good :) mechinal faliures?
Hz best crash physics i have seen in a Sim for sure. hmmm, dunno about that.. havnen't encountered it yet. there is some pretty crazy differences now though
Gizmo looking forward to light and weather
Hz like now you have a designated pit box, and have a pit crew, and need to notify the pit crew for a pitstop
Gizmo weeeeee be great for 24h races. are they animated?
Hz uh huh, very basic though, but i mean it might change. oh yeah, animated flaggies and people around track too and moving objests and stuff, south city has trains...hehe
Gizmo down the main stright? down the main striaght lmao?
Hz no no no, just around track, and there are planes and stuff, but they did it right for sure you know how some games have planes fly over that look too low and stupid this has them like miles in the sky like little spots leaving jet streams.. lol
Gizmo great. what about choppers flying over like a tv crew?
Hz yep and they dont just go around in circles either, they follow the leader to an extent, and land and take off at random intervals. when you are driving around in lower places, you can get a fair idea where the leader is die to spotting the chopper.. lol
Gizmo lol
Gizmo anyways mate, better get back to the f1 thanks for sharing the info
Hz lmao.. i was only stirring ya hahahah i don't know shit was funny though
Gizmo haha fucker
Hz you can show me your cock now though

So close to the truth.
But you forgot the temperature effect on tyre pressures,
the "live human" effect where you black out if you dont hit the drink switch every lap or so
the "derbris hit helmet" 10 second loss of vision
Also the "Uber Boss" at the end of level 11 when you exit the Pryrah gate onto the Illwyn plain, real hard unless you have the "Blade of Myrthryllyn" or a level 33 Paladin healing charm with Mercury.

I don't understand why that's not already in the game, especially when the ideal gas law is so simple and should be good enough for LFS' purposes.

I read down to the formula for it, and had a complete and utter brainfart. Such things were not meant for the simple-minded I guess.

It's pretty simple really.

PV = nRT

for a tyre R is a constant and n is fixed as you can assume no new air enters/leaves the tyre. So you have

PV = kT

or

P = kT/V

where k is a constant. So we end up with Pressure is proportional to Temperature divided by Volume. I assume that LFS already calculates the temperature of the air in the tyre, so all it needs to do is calculate the volume, which is pretty easy.

This model may not 100% represent what happens in reality, but I think it's good enough for LFS.

Isn't that ideal gas law stuff only for a closed system? If you are bringing in extra heat then it all kinda goes to poo, yes?
The other tricky bit would be calculating the constant!

I think that's only because P depends on T and T depends on P. But, if you already have a good model for T that doesn't depend on P, then you can use it to determine P. In effect, you're just calculating P for a new closed system each time step.

The constant is easy. You only need to determine n, the amount of gas.

n = PV / RT

so you just work out n in the garage according to what pressure the tyre has been pumped up to. All you need to do is use sensible values for V and T.
