Constipated ARSE
Is anyone else finding that getting on to the ARSE forums runs incredibly slow recently?
For about the past week every now and then the response times for the ARSE forums have been pathetic. I have done all sorts of tests to determine whether its a bandwidth or system performance issue at my end, but when ARSE is slow to respond no other application or website is slow at the same time (or slow at all for that matter).
So has anyone else been experiencing content constipation with the ARSE recently?

Re: Constipated ARSE
Almost certainly server side.
I find it goes through patches of fast and slow responses.
Our database is pretty big (300Mb) but we're well within the limits of our server package and the database integrity looks fine.
I've just re-optimised the database so see if that helps any.

Re: Constipated ARSE
if it's only posting which takes long, it could be the database a bit overloaded; it often materialises first via db writes getting slower..
Edit: it's not necessarily the size, it's how the tables are used; and it's what others maybe doing on the same server.
Edit2: since it's intermittent, I think it's others occasionally overloading it...by the way 300MB is not *that* big.

Re: Constipated ARSE
The board software we use is capable of databases 10x this size so it would be down to how the host server deals with it. More likely to be a congested server or one which is on its last legs. If it's the latter they should be aware of that and planning a move.

Re: Constipated ARSE
It's not just on submitting posts.
I think its more likely to be a general server load issue or a server side connectivity issue.
Kev: How much bandwidth does ARSE use each month (i.e. how many GB of data transfer)????

Re: Constipated ARSE
Pix asked me the other day if it was slow here. I haven't had it happen yet. Keep the reports coming if it is still slow.

ads? WTF? We don't have ads. That's the whole point of the donations. I'd love to see a screenie to see where they come from.KNAPPO wrote:Yeah ive had it being slow over the last few days as well. This one said "your IP has been selected as a potential winner" the ones i got this morning said "You have won an LCD TV" and was one of those red flashing seziure style ads...w00dsy wrote:ads? WTF? Re: Constipated ARSE
has anyone else seen these ads? Just wondering if it's a forum thing or a Knappo thing. Stu are you running an adblocker at all? I might switch mine off today and see if i see them.

Re: Constipated ARSE
Might be a Knappo thing. I was running FF3 in XP and never got an issue with Ads on ARSE but i switched over to Win7 this week and yesterday I moved ISP's to Internode. This morning was the first time ive ever noticed an ad on ARSE, last night it was fine whilst on Node. I just grabbed a FF3 addon for blocking ads and ill let you guys know if it pops up again.
