Re: Help needed~ Camera is shagged~
OK, being a Doofus I didn't take my big lens to the shop, just the small one
Of course, it worked perfectly with the small lens and he tried a longer lens which worked fine as well
Will take the big one back tomorrow (its only a few months old)
a: hopefully its the lens and not the camera
b:maybe the lens is stull under warranty?
c: if its the lens i may buy a nikon something to 300 mill about $500

Well it could well be the lens... And I'd say it's still under warranty. You should get 12 months. You may not get it back in time for your trip though.

Re: Help needed~ Camera is shagged~
OK...
back to camera shop and took him plenty of convincing that it wasnt working properly, he didnt seem to think that not being able to shoot at over 1/100 of a second speed in bright light was an issue...
He gave me the address of the only authorised Nikon Rep in Adelaide, 25 minutes walk, up 3 flights of stairs, knock 7 times and ask for "Mr Smith"
Was a very quiet, old, not well looking Chinese man who said about 20 words in the 20 minutes he was looking at
AFTER a while he agreed that yes, it was all wrong, things work fine on automatic settings but not manual!
He has no idea what would cause it, never seen it before, and wouldnt bother trying to fix it.
Will be a great point and shoot camera for the missus
OK, now to shop around for a d7000
(may try and trade the other in...)

Help needed~ Camera is shagged~
If you gunna do it, do it quick! I don't know what the go with Nikon is, but Canon just jumped in price (at my work anyway) by a considerable amount due to the Japanese disaster. There will be shortages of stock everywhere soon. Including Nikon I believe.
Have a look at the single lens kit D7000 with the 18-105. It's a nice lens. And good value considering the body only price.

The inside of the box?Gougoodthing wrote:I wonder what my first photo will be....
Years ago a mate of mine bought a new camera duty free, they sealed it in a plastic bag and told him he had to present the camera, in the bag with an unbroken seal when he boarded the plane. The deal included a roll of film, he managed to get both the camera and film out of their boxes and the film loaded into the camera and the first shot taken with the new camera while it was still in the plastic bag! Not a bad effort I reckon.

Yeah, the closest major city to the epicentre.
I don't know that the factory was all that badly affected but the transportation systems in and out of Sendai - road, rail, air and sea - are stuffed.
