The movement of the camera has me flummoxed though, must be using some sort of mechanical advice (esp. for the ups and downs)

We used a wolly dolly for a time lapse video that was shot at work recently.

Yeah the BBC have used those on nature programmes for a few years now. It's a camera on a motorised track, pre=programmed to move a certain amount each minute or hour or day etc and take pictures at the same time.

Well there you go.

And an issue with time lapse is making sure it simply doesnt look like sped up video.
