Yeah, it's got no problems with pCars or AC on triple screens. I'm not running everything maxed, of course, but most settings are high and it looks excellent. Compared to my old 5870s which literally wouldn't run those games at all! I still managed to score $170 or so for the old cards on eBay too.

GTX 980 core around 5.2b transistors on 28nm process plus a few GB of DDR5 memory as well, if you compare a CPU and memory together they are a bit closer in pricing.

Re: Upgrade Time!
GPUs have kind of stagnated and so has the competition in the pricing. I bought my HD 7870 two years ago for $240, an R7 370 which is essentially the same exact card but slightly cut back is in the same $210-230 range. The HD 7870 replaced an HD 6850 purchased a few years earlier for similar dollars for roughly 1.5 times the performance, so we've gone from a 1.5 times increase in performance for the price over two years to no increase at all.
The performance increases in recent times have translated into higher prices.
As a bit of an interim upgrade I just bought a second hand HD 7970 for $160, made sense for something to tide me over till the Rift or Vive are released and I need something like a GTX 970.

Re: Upgrade Time!
Ill be going a GTX 970 when my HD 7850 gets a bit tired. Id see some decent performance gains there, but not really $500 worth in my opinion. Hopefully I'll pick one up cheap by then.
