Re: Mick and other LEGO freaks......
So, Brickalaide is on again this weekend (Friday and Saturday) at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Connor's been busy for the last few weekends finalising things (his display this year is 3m long by half a metre deep and includes lights and other electronic stuff, it's been great, in the last few weeks he's learnt how to solder, code for an arduino, etc, etc).
If anyone's going let me know so we can meet for a chat, I'll be there all of both two days.

Re: Mick and other LEGO freaks......
Sooooo,
Heading towards Easter again means that my son Connor is hard at work on his display for Brickalaide. I can't post any teasers just yet, but anyone in Adelaide who has some spare time on the Friday or Saturday of Easter it'll be very much worth coming along to see what he's done (especially if you have kids you can bring, but to be honest, even if you don't it's worth the price of admission).
As an idea of how far he's taken things this year, in his first year (at 12 years old) his display had around 3,000 parts, last year had 6,000, and this year (at 14 years of age) his display has 40,000 parts, is 2m long, 1m wide and almost 1m high, and will weigh (I estimate) around 75kg when finished!
He's been working flat out on it since October last year, and is now working frantically to get it finished on time. I'll post up some pics when I can for those who might be interested, and if you're in Adelaide hopefully you'll come along to see it in person.

I think I have to go this year if we are not going away. Interested to see your sons display as last years was pretty special, 40k parts is mental.

From a cost point of view, more like 1/3 my Kombi (roughly half the cost of a brand new medium sized car)!

Wow, insane!
My whole collection is around 90,000 pieces and that's stretching the marriage!
I have, however, been given permission to buy 75192 (whenever it's back in stock!) as a getting old birthday present. That should bolster the part count a bit.
Can't wait to see your boy's MOC.
