Re: FORD vs FERRARI
It is a great story and the trailer looks OK but after being disappointed by Rush, I'm not holding out much hope for a decent car movie out of Hollywood.

Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby is weird. The rest of it seems ok though.

Seems alright, overdue for another racing film. But dammit, it'd better have the Daytona Coupe in there too.

Re: FORD vs FERRARI
Open mind...... But.
Yep Rod I agree, I like Damon but he's totally wrong for Shelby.
I'm worried about the americanisation of the story.
There's the kiwi connection Amon/McLaren which they will not be able to ignore but I'm sure they will minimalise which will surely piss me off.
The big one is Lola... If they try put this as a pure ironmonger Detroit effort vs Maranello. Man that will really shit me.

Ferrari will be the bad guy but Enzo not selling was the best thing to happen. Look what it gave us.

Re: FORD vs FERRARI
Oh yeah, it'll be absolute American garbage.
But damn I'm excited, it's been damn too long since a racing film came out (I'm aware it's only been 1-2 years).
For some reason it's called LeMans '66 in the UK trailers online.

That cause the UK ia too close to Italy, don't want to piss off Fezza &/or kick them while they are down...

Re: FORD vs FERRARI
Just saw it tonight. Do yourself a favour and go see it!
And yes, they ignore 1964, 1965 gets a sequence but the focus is '66 Daytona and '66 Lemans,
GT40 is acknowledged as being English first off, but that's about it,
All the co-drivers get minimal screen time,
And every character seems to say inspirational quotes every 5th line.
In any case, Christian Bale makes a proper Pommy Larrikin out of Ken Miles and the film is very enjoyable.

Its a damn good movie if you let yourself enjoy it .
Which I did , wasn't too Yankeedoodle and just a little distorted but enjoyable all the same.

Really enjoyed that, even the wife did who is a not a car fan at all.
Had no idea about the finish line situation so that was a surprise to me.
Its interesting you go from rooting for Ford early on in the movie, to almost hating them after what happened.

I stand corrected about this. I really bloody enjoyed it and I'm glad that the failures were mentioned before they got it right.Dr. Pain wrote: This will happen. It will be a Ford hype fest and fuck the rest.

Re: FORD vs FERRARI
Was Ken miles a dick like he was portrayed? In the other docos I have seen they seem to paint him as a quiet and humble sort of bloke.

Re: FORD vs FERRARI
He wasn’t a dick but he was prickly to say the least.
There was a heck of a lot of historical revision and exclusion in it but it was so damn good it gets a pass from me anyway. There was a clear passion in the project from all involved.

Re: FORD vs FERRARI
Finally saw it last night. Wasn't too bad but I hated the Hollywood wank of driving along side by side at 50kph looking at each other pretending they're doing 250kph, then changing gears and firing off into the distance like the Millennium Falcon hitting light speed. Reminded me of Days Of Thunder when Cole Trickle had his first NASCAR test and he got on the radio and said 'I'm dropping the hammer' and changed up to 4th, and Harry yelled back 'no you're not'. As though he'd spent the entire time lapping the oval in 3rd and they really hoped he wouldn't go any faster.

Re: FORD vs FERRARI
Yeah I noticed that as well but I wasn't sure if back in those days they kept a bit in reserve on the long Le Mans straights to look after the engine, the driver could decide to put the foot down all the way if they wanted to overtake or keep someone behind. That seemed to be the implication that they forced Ferrari to run too hard for too long but I wasn't sure if was a bit of creative license or not.
