Minecraft 1.2

Post by Shonky »

Its here. Hopefully it's not as crash happy as previous updates.
Minecraft Beta 1.2 is live. All servers need to be updated to 1.2.

New features:
* Note blocks (right click to tune, trigger to play)
* 15 wool dyes
* A new water dwelling mob
* New tree types
* Reeds magically turned into sugar canes. They still make paper.
* A bunch of new crafting recipes
* One secret useful block
* One secret pretty block
* Cake
* AND MOAR, probably. I forget!

Bugfixes:
* Paintings work in multiplayer
* Disconnecting while riding no longer keeps the player in the world
* A bunch more state is properly synched in multiplayer
* Fixed colors going weird on PowerPC
* Fixed a horrible chunk reload loop in singleplayer
* Fixed most lighting bugs in newly generated SMP maps
* Falling sand behaves better in SMP
* Fixed a few crash on load level bugs

Doesn't seem to mention anything about Black Screen of Death... from what I've googled, that is one of the most common bugs in the game.

Interested to find out what the new blocks etc are and the crafting receipe's.

Typical of the notch's workflow, 1.2 is released, then in a day or so you will see 1.2_01 which will fix the show stopper bugs,, well here's hoping anyway.

It's so damn laggy on my private server it's not funny. There's a good 1-2sec delay between the pressing a button and an action. Single player seems to lag a bit as well, but I think it's just because of the "preload" of all the new animals and added extras that came with the update. Haven't played long enough to see if it will iron out.

I am back to standard textures for now. The pack I was using had purple sheep and black trees.

Yeah, back to normal textures again too. Misa's textures are apparently being updated to hopefully be released today sometime.

Lag update: I changed rendering back to normal distance and it's hunky dory again, so far. Playing with inverters and music blocks on the private server atm... it's fun, but a 7 note chain takes up A LOT of space, lol.

Looks like you have to kill some of those water mobs to get ink - or are there other ways of making it?

The ink is for black dye... other dyes are from flowers already in game. Mixing different dyes makes different colours.

The server has been updated to 1.2, but because hMod is dead and Bukkit isn't ready we are missing all the features we had (e.g. spawn, Cuboid, etc...). :(

the bigger issue is i dont think Mcmyadimin doesnt support bukkit yet, and wont until the first official build comes out. I read that hmod will be supported until the first release of bukkit but we will just have to wait and see I guess.

Bukkit is going to be interesting aswell, it doesnt support flatfile only Sql but they are using sql lite which means one doesnt have to install a sql database first i think. I have no experiance with sql at all so i dont know for sure. astro will no doubt correct me if im wrong!

lets just hope nothing bad happen to arseville....

Dont worry norbs (no it wasn't me), Astro has backed up the world and it will most likely be reverted down the track once we have some form of lot protection, and of course some bugs are fixed, I give it a few days and there will be a new release without a doubt. notch has broken stuff that used to work fine like railway tracks plus a few other things.

So is there no point in going on to do anything?

Yeah, I will stick to single play for the time being. When the bugs are ironed out I will finish the cavern.

If you're bored in single player, then give this a crack.

(Try Version 1.1 out first, its the most fun.)

I don't know for sure, that's probably best answered by Neil or Astro, but I'm not going to bother with doing anything major at least until notch does his usual small update after a major release to fix new bugs that have been introduced with 1.2
