2011 Around The Bay In A Day (VIC) - 16/10/11
Guys,
There was some discussion a while ago about some of us CyclARSEts doing the Bicycle Victoria, ATB event on 16th October 2011.
http://www.bv.com.au/general/great-rides/20005/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Well it's now time to consider if you want to be a part of it, joining norbs, myself & w00dsy (hopefully).
So sign up now & come ride the 210km's with your fellow forum members.
Event Details
Event: Around the Bay in a Day
Date: Sunday 16 October, 2011
Depart: 6am (Alexandra Gardens, Melbourne)
Ride Option: 210km Queenscliffe (with Ferry & limited to 3,000 riders). http://www.bv.com.au/general/great-rides/92819/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Cost: $170 AUD (incl's: Lunch & ATB Jersey)
Using my BV membership we can now enter a week earlier than the public. Which given the rider limit & popular route direction is recommended.
We have setup a team which will allow anyone including non-members to register as of today.
PM me on how to register in the team, if your interested.

I would love to do the ride but it will all depend on what is happening with work at the time . Maybe a late inclusion if that is possible and it's quite on the work front .

Guys,
Just wanted to point out that even though we have a team there is no guarentee of getting into the ride we enter.
It is purely first in best dressed for the first 3,000 entries for that route.
Also you are only confirmed on that ride once you have paid the entry fee in full.
So unfortunately you need to commit & make your desicion very quickly otherwise risk missing out on riding the whole way with us.
I got this today from BV to give you an idea.

Last year the 210km ride (via Queenscliff) SOLD OUT within hours of going on sale to the general public and is looking likely to happen again in 2011.

They limit the numbers that do the ride officially. It is like the Sydney to Gong ride. They limit it so they can keep things under control. But heaps ride along anyway. Well in the Sydney to Gong ride they do.

Yep norbs is right as I have actually ridden to Sorrento & back on the day of ATB but never entered nor did I start / finish in the offical place.norbs wrote:DexterPunk wrote:Just out of interest... How does a ride sell out? Do they stop people from riding around the bay??

Although if you wanted to actually go around the whole bay then good luck trying to get on the ferry with a bike while thousands of paid entrants, with their pre-paid tickets & official ride numbers pinned on their backs are lined up waiting to get on also.
Entering also gets you various support from volunteers & an offical timing chip. (Oh did I forget to mention we are racing this norbs :P )

Farkers!!! So our devious plan didn't quite work then norbs.
Obviously don't join BV. But I know have some serious questions as;
When I look at the team entries it says both of yours are complete & that the entry fee has been paid. WTF!!!
So do you know re-register @ 9am on Monday & your in, given you may have already paid?
Or does your entry get deleted from the team and you have to go through the whole register rigmarole again?
Is there any contact detials on the email, if you want me to pursue it given I am member then PM the details?
I think we should still be O.K if we get onto it straight away in Monday if that's what's required.
There will be a fair mix of member only entries on all rides even though the route we want is very popular.
Sorry Guys.

I will dive in first thing Monday morning. If I can't get the ride we want, then I might have to do some complaining. Given it asks if you are a member, and I answered NO, but it still takes your money, i think we might have grounds for complaint.

Hi gents,
I'll be doing it again this year, but counterclockwise (Melbourne to Queenscliff route). Currently training with mates ( a bit too early i know) along the eastlink trail. That has an awesome hill that really raise your heartbeat
in any case, here is the machine i'll be doing this years ride on.

You should be right Mate, if not I'll change to match what you get.
by the way I just checked and both your entries still say complete & also that you both have paid, so what is it that you have to do to confirm it this morning?

Re: 2011 Around The Bay In A Day (VIC) - 16/10/11
by the way if you blokes are keen & happy I could potentially wrangle some more riders for our ATB Team?
Don't worry they are not 6amers (well 1 might be) but rather some work collegues who commute and are genrally much like yourselves wrt to their riding habits.
It would only be 3 or 4 extra at the most & could make the job easier for all, more support & encouragement during the day to get each other to the end.
Let me know & I'll spread the word otherwise it's no problem if you just want it to be the 3 of us. I'm fine either way.

I just wanted to make sure our entries are valid really. The money has come out of my bank, so I expect we are ok. The site went down this morning under the load.
I rang them and they couldn't check, but he said if payment has gone through, it should be ok.

Dear Jason,
This morning Around the Bay 2011 entries went on sale to the general public following the Bicycle Victoria member pre-sale week.

Simply join as a Bicycle Victoria member by 1pm Wednesday April 13 and your Around the Bay entry will be secured.
