Given the way notch has worked on bug fixes in the past I'm not surprised, it will be a case of fix one bug, create 3 more for a while, but good to see he is letting people know how things will work.

Apparently notch has fixed 70 odd bugs (he said he did 35ish yesterday 35ish today) and has removed the bug where when two minecarts are next to each other they go really fast. So no more boosters.

I think notch means he has made the new booster tracks quicker, but the old glitch we used to use by dropping a cart into a rail next another cart so they glitched off each other to give the boost is no longer there, so those that are using the old booster designs on the map will have no choice but to change them to using the new booster rails when the update arrives.

I was thinking last night about the nether and what it means for this map, I'm thinking it might pay to think carefully about how we place our portals, otherwise we will end up with a bunch of them top side all leading to the same portal in the nether, I know in the past playing single player I've had times where the portals have been unpredictable in how they will work, and in some cases I've had portals strewn all over a map with no reason for their existence, anyone have any thoughts on how we want to utilise them?

Currently there is one portal on the map that I know of in the base of the pyramid which was added for the sound effect, but with the announcement of 1.6 Raz and I decided we will build it into a portal room and make it accessible by everyone, in the mean time we will also put the portal out before 1.6 comes out to hopefully avoid any weirdness there.

If we get things correct, we will be able to use them for transport ourselves over large distances, provided the 8:1 ratio continues with 1.6, but we probably won't be able to work on this much until we can get in and test these things with a real map.

Any thoughts folks?

Now that sounds like a great idea! If it comes out on Thursday as expected, we could have a ceremonial lighting of the portal on Friday at 9pm. :D

The list of fixes...

With Minecraft patch 1.6 releasing this week and looking to be very big in terms of bug fixes, Notch decided to release the changelist early as well. We already know about the new map system and Nether in SMP, but check out the full list below for all of the fixes and tweaks as well.
