norbs,
I'm out for the following days or w/ends
Sat 4th June, Weekend 25th & 26th June.
Early July is tough too with Weekend 2nd & 3rd July & Weekend 9th & 10th July out as well, in case your thinking then.

How about the Friday 17th til Monday 20th? That means riding on 18th and 19th if possible.

Re: Melbourne CyclARSEts.
My only experience is with BMX's.
If you can beg, steal or borrow a proper hard case bike bag would be the best thing.
If not use plenty of bubble wrap & get a bike box from your local bike shop as they have plastic inserts in strategic locations in the box.
See if you can get some old hubs or skewers with spacers to put in your drop-out so they don't get squashed.
Take pedals off, loosen stem & turn bars, take seatpost (with seat) out, remove skewers from wheels, try get the plastic ends that go into wheel axles from manufactures box, deflate tyres, secure chain so it doesn't rattle & scratch everything.
Think that covers most of it.
I'm sure there must be some good guides around the net.

Re: Melbourne CyclARSEts.
So what's the plan for Sat'dee norbs?
Looks lie I'm racing Sunday morning but that won't effect what we're doing Sat.
What time do you want to leave? How far do you want to go? Where do you want to finish? How long do you want to ride?
Give me some rough numbers & I'll plan the best route to capture the ATB experience & go by good eatery's for us to drop into.
Just to give you an idea, City to Sorrento return would be close to 200k's

Re: Melbourne CyclARSEts.
i've only done 2x100km rides so far, so if we are doing big days on saturday and sunday i don't want to do too many km's each day. Plus i've not done a whole lot the last few weeks with the weather and life getting in the way so i have no desire to go breaking any records. From my point of view i'm planning on being ready for 210km's in October, not now. You're freaking me out Flinty

Sorry w00dsy I wasn't suggesting we go out for 200, I'm not up for anything like that either. Especially as I'm racing the next day. More just to give norbs some idea that Sorrento is long way from town.

Re: Melbourne CyclARSEts.
Well, to be honest, I think we need to see think about what we are capable of doing. Also, the weather my play a part. I don't think Rod is too keen to ride in the rain. I'm travelling over 2000kms for the round trip, so I will ride in fucking hail if I have to.
Maybe do a big day Saturday, and that way Rod and I can take it easy on Sunday. When I say big. Probably 100kms is enough, given Rod hasn't done a real lot on the new bike. That said, riding in a little group is easier than on your own, so maybe 150km is doable? Rod?
Not knowing the lay of the land, if we do the Eastern side on Saturday, do we swing by your place and pick you up? Are you still thinking about bringing a mate?
Also, what time did you want to get on the road?

Re: Melbourne CyclARSEts.
i think i'm confused, do you mean 150km in one day or over 2 days? I might struggle doing 150km in one day but over 2 it'd be easy enough. I'm happy to do about 100km each day i think, especially on those easy roads like we are doing. But i've never ridden with anyone else before so i may get a bit drained mentally from concentrating on not hitting anyone. That's my only real issue. I am ok with semi decent km's though. As long as we're not racing i can go a reasonable distance.

Re: Melbourne CyclARSEts.
I was thinking 150 on the Saturday with Flinty. Then we can just do what ever we feel up to on Sunday.
I agree with Flinty, we probably need to plan something though, just so as we have some idea what we are doing.

150km on saturday would start and end us at around Balacombe rd in Beaumaris. That's exactly 75km's to Sorrento and back. There's a parking spot on the beach side just after the round about, maybe we could meet there. linky

Re: Melbourne CyclARSEts.
O.K here is something to start with, it will be between 140-150km's & takes in the best/worst of what to expect come ATB. http://bit.ly/iz6P5Y" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You'll get to do Beach Rd (both ways), the hills around Mt Eliza as well as Balcombe Hill on the way back (that's the worse climb one on this side).
I have also thrown in an option of Arthurs Seat (steep), it is not part of the ATB but since you're here is probably a must do norbs, if the weather is good then the view is spectacular. From Dromana to Sorrento is as flat as a tack so no need to go any further down the bay.
Forecast for Sat:
Possible shower. Min 8 Max 15
Mostly cloudy. The chance of showers. Winds west to northwesterly averaging up to 30 km/h.

Re: Melbourne CyclARSEts.
I am keen to do that ride. Seems about what Rod was suggesting I think.
As to Arthurs Seat, I will that up to Rod.
http://theclimbingcyclist.com/climbs/mo ... hurs-seat/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Looks terrific, but Rod has got virtually no climbing experience, and I don't want to kill him. To be honest, it would be a challenge for me on the new bike to.
Rod, you happy with that route?

Yeah fair enough. I could always push Rod up it or he can enjoy a brew (of coffee) & cake in town if he wants.
But you my friend won't get out of it that easily.

LOL, fucker.
Having had a think about it whilst basting the lamb roast (yes, it isn't a euphemism) I don't think I could do it, so it is hardly fair on Rod. That isn't meant to sound patronising Rod, I just know how hard climbing is on the roadies, and I honestly think I will struggle. You haven't done much climbing, and I think you'll find it just as hard.
I think maybe a conference call during the week is in order.

Re: Melbourne CyclARSEts.
well i have zero experience climbing, but i have plenty of experience at eating cakes in town, so my preference is obvious. I'm going to struggle doing that many km's let alone climbing, but i will happily go along with whatever until i feel fairly knackered, then i'll get cranky and tell you both to fuck off and i'll wait on the side of the road. So if i feel ok on the day i might attempt to climb it, but you may have to carry me back to Brighton.
