Prepar3D v2.0 - Releasing this month

Post by Duke »

Been waiting for this & cant' wait... http://airdailyx.blogspot.com.au/2013/1 ... inent.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

New features & enhancements confirmed for release;
- Core engine optimised for multi-core CPU systems
- Utilizes full GPU resource capacity, minimizing CPU load
- Memory management improvements to avoid OOM's (caused by the 4GB limit of the old core engine code)
- Updated GFX engine to utilise DirectX 11
- Dynamic shadows in 3D cockpits (with no change to aircraft models)
- Dynamic ground shadows (buildings, trees, objects)
- New & improved waves with wave size & direction is influenced by wind strength & heading.
- Native bloom (with no performance penalty)
- Volumetric fog as shown in this video:

Cloud shadows are also rumoured to be in the 1st update after release.

The Professional Plus version will also include Weapons (guided/unguided) FLIR systems, ECM pods, countermeasures etc (to be created by 3rd party devs)

For those that don't know what Prepar3D (P3D) is then read here: http://www.prepar3d.com/product-overvie ... se-history" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's interesting when you look at the License options...
To see which version of Prepar3D® is right for you, please reference the chart on the right. As provided in our End User License Agreement, the Prepar3D application is not to be used, offered, sold or distributed through markets or channels for use as a personal/consumer entertainment product.

It's been a hot topic since it was released but although it's written it's not heavily enforced as the academic license makes it legally accessible to most anyone. :vibes:
It's well known LM know many Flight Simmers have bought it & use it. They also are not shy in admitting they listen to the community to drive the development & feature set pf P3D.
Good on them I say especiually given Microsoft abandoned flight sims when they shut down ACES Studio who developed the MSFS series...

I got all excited. Didn't read enough of anything. Signed up, paid up, downloaded, installed, got disappointed. Then I realised, I'd just bought v1.4 because V2 is not released yet. :cry:

Even so. It seems strange. V1.4 is a 10GB download in compressed form, it looks like FS2002 (but without the heavies) not only that it is not a 64 bit proggy. Can they have bloated an MS base that much?

I'm hoping I get V2 as an update now that I've purchased the old one, and I'm hoping to be impressed.

EDIT: Hmmm :( seems I've done my dough. You'll have to tell me all about V2 Flinty.

Ah shit sorry Durrie I thought my post was pretty clear.

I've had v1.4 for a long time now, yes it was not a lot different in looks to FSX but it is more stable & a lot smoother at low FPS compared to the stuttering mess FSX is.

But yes v2.0 should be a whole new ballgame, effectively it should be a new sim if it holds up to the promise many in the FS industry & community are making of it.

It's all down to me. Thanks for the heads up on the whole Prepar3D thing though. I would have missed it otherwise.

Hows it going with the new release Flinty?

I'm waiting for my credit for the previous version to appear and when it does, if you think its any good, I'll give it a burl.

I've actually held off buying it for now, too busy with other things & all my cockpit time is on race sims at the moment.
Surprisingly performance is only slightly better but the new features is what is the biggest seller for me, volumetric fog & no more autogen pop-up.
I follow this guys blog, he's usually right on the money with all things FSX & P3D: http://kostasfsworld.wordpress.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'll probably get it over my xmas break as I'm going to mod the cockpit so I can removable mount my FS hardware (X52pro HOTAS & rudder pedals) alongside the G25 for when I want to fly. :nod:

GULP!!! http://www.saitek.com/x55/

The perfect companion to P3Dv2.0 I'd say.

Wonder what it'll be priced at , I suspect between the old trusty X52 Pro & the newer X65F models.

Speaking of Saetek gear, I recently got a X52 Pro and can't for the life of me work out how to set the throttle travel below the lower notch to reverse thrust...

got any tips?

and yes, I am keeping an eye on this sim, especially if the water is see-through like the real stuff!

I've got a thrustmaster Cougar. The Throttle quadrant has max and min settings in both software and hardware. What type of limits are you tyring to set on your X52 Scottie?

Must admit I can't see where to set them... If I limit the range of the axis, does the rest of the axis turn into some sort of button?!!?

Not too bad on price but I don't need to upgrade...
